Dry Stone Walling Event – Expressions of Interest

The Friends of St James and Veterans on the Edge are pleased to invite Expressions of Interest for a special dry stone walling weekend led by Andrew Docherty of Walling2Recovery (http://www.w2r.co.uk) and generously funded by the Veterans Foundation.

This hands‑on event will run from 26–29 March 2026, approximately 0900–1700hrs each day, at the closed churchyard of St James Church, Churchend, Charfield, GL12 8LJ (What3Words: warns/patrolled/joyously). You are welcome to join for the full four days, a single day, or even just a morning or afternoon. Letting us know your availability helps us plan safely and ensure good coverage across the event.

What to expect

Participants will receive guided instruction in traditional dry stone walling while helping restore an important part of Charfield’s heritage. The focus is on creating a worthwhile, enjoyable experience where everyone feels supported and fully engaged.

• All training and safety equipment is provided.
• Please bring suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, as well as your own lunch and refreshments.
• Toilet facilities are available, though not easily accessible.
• Maximum of 6 spaces per day, with priority for local military and blue‑light veterans and their close family members.

Important information

Dry stone walling is a physical activity. If you take medication or have any condition that may affect your participation, please make the organiser aware so appropriate support can be put in place. Your wellbeing and safety are central to how the event is run.
